Wire Finance is a fictional professional and financial services organisation created as a practical environment for exploring modern identity, security, and cloud operations.
The company begins with 25 employees working across Finance, HR, Operations, Sales, and IT, with both office-based and remote workers. Its technology environment starts in the Microsoft cloud and will gradually evolve as the organisation’s security requirements become more complex.
As the project develops, Wire Finance will also expand beyond its initial cloud-first environment into on-premises Active Directory and hybrid identity, giving us a realistic platform for exploring both modern and traditional enterprise infrastructure.
Rather than being just another lab, Wire Finance represents a growing business where every technical decision has a purpose — and every security control has a story behind it.
And like any real organisation, it all starts with one important question:
Who should have access to what?
That question will shape how we design identities, assign permissions, manage privileged access, onboard and offboard employees, secure devices, and eventually monitor the environment for suspicious activity.
As we build Wire Finance, we will follow those decisions from design through implementation and into security operations — understanding not just how to configure the technology, but why each decision matters.
